Gear, Gear and more Gear

I ask myself why. Why be so obsessed with gear. I remember as a 13 year old, getting my first Guitar World magazine. On the cover was Yngwie Malmsteen (Swedish shredder, Google it if you're not sure). But it wasn't the artist on the cover that got me. It was the candy apple red Fender Stratocaster with a rosewood, scalloped fretboard that got me.

I had been playing guitar for a few years up to that point...mostly chords and stuff, no real intense leads. But that magazine opened up a world for me. Guitars, amps, effects, pickups, tips and tricks, whammy bars and tab. It was awesome. Even now after all these years, I still get excited when the newest issue of Guitar World comes in the mail......to be continued.....next time, what gear do I use or want to have.....
